7 Day Mural
Roman Ruins

Using Photoshop to Create a Piece of Antiquity

Feb. 11-17, 2008

Join Nicola Vigini in a one of a kind journey creating a a trompe l'oeil ruins panel  inspired by the famous painting of the Hall of Ruins by French artist, Clarissot.  This painting is housed in the magnificent Trinita dei Monti, the French convent above the Spanish Steps in Rome which we visit each year during our Italian summer workshop.

Students will learn:

  • concept of using photoshop for murals

  • sky

  • the foundations of perspective

  • architectural ruins

  • stone effects, broken walls

  • woodgraining

  • elements of landscape

  • correct use of brushes

  • installation

  • pricing, although the business class covers more information as this is a technique based workshop

Students will complete a portion of the instructor mural on a 4x8 panel.

Below are photo's from previous workshops

Spring 2003, as seen below, our 10 day mural class took place in Vero Beach, Florida at Faux Effects Headquarters.  Assisting Nicola was Sean Crosby of  The Finishing School.  See the day by day update of our Classically Greek inspired Mural.

In 2002, as seen to the left, we focused on the San Antonio missions and the Alamo. This mural depicts an ocean scene, female figures, and local landscape intermixed among authentic limestone structures. As in each course, the instructors completed a 24 foot by 10 foot mural while the students carried out a section on a 4 X 8 foot stretch of canvas.
