(Prerequisites: Intro to Faux, Designer Wall Finishes I
 or Teacher Discretion)

Learn from master artisan, Nicola Vigini, the premier authority on grottesca  painting in the United States.

Improve your knowledge of Italian decoration by using our unique line of Grottesca stencils used over plasters and other sophisticated surfaces.  Learn our secret Raffaelesca crackle finish and create fabric and plaster based designs to amaze your clients. These finishes are beautiful enhancements to wall, cabinetry, as well as furniture.  An Art-Historical presentation based on many years of travel and research will give you a greater understanding and will wet the appetite of any lover of Italian decoration!

Grottesca, a style of ornamentation stemming from ancient Roman fresco painting is defined by seemingly symmetric arabesque-like figures of flora and fauna motifs which appear to float within architectural details.  Its origins begin at Pompeii and were rediscovered during the Renaissance.  Raphael's Loggia in the Vatican is a perfect example of Renaissance grottesca.

Five multi-layered boards will be completed in this class.  To compliment this workshop, we have 2 DVD's available on line (see the Home Page) Red Pompeiian and Renaissance Grottesca.
